New Darren Hanlon Video – Butterfly Bones released!

The new music video for Darren Hanlon’s latest single Butterfly Bones, directed by his long-time collaborator Natalie Van Den Dungen, once again astounds with its simple beauty. Studded with a motley cast of Australian personalities, Bob Ellis (novelist, playwright, political speechwriter), Tina Bursill (Prisoner, Skyways), Jess Tovey (Home and Away), Rhys Muldoon, Bec Rigby and Darren himself weave a tale of a son who dreams up a grand scheme to cheer up his ailing mother. But it’s the location itself, an old abandoned drive-in, that is arguably the biggest star. Butterfly Bones plays more like a short film than a regular music video, with its use of pathos, humour and nostalgia for a faded era of Australian history.

Filmed at The Lucksmiths’ farewell show at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on August 29, 2009 (and directed by Natalie van den Dungen) Unfamiliar Stars is both a definitive concert film and an important end-of-the-line document of an underground Australian icon, standing tall among the best of The Lucksmiths’ vast discography. At a total of 33 songs, the swan song performance finds the band in vintage form. A short documentary of the band’s final months entitled Darkening Doorways rounds out the package
